Call to review the Work and Income system and its service delivery

The power imbalance between those in authority and beneficiaries has reached paramount levels. Inhumane treatment is happening in Work and Income centres nationwide; horrendous stories are emerging daily from clients who seek help and are subsequently treated without respect or common decency by the very case managers who are supposed to be helping them. Clients are seldom informed of help that they may be entitled to, and yet they are told about the obligations that they must meet. The gap between socio-economic difference is widening, yet all humans deserve to be treated with equal respect, regardless of their personal and entirely individual circumstances.
We, the people of New Zealand, call for a review of the Work and Income system, and its subsequent delivery. Fear of a system which was designed to help us is unacceptable. People are homeless, children are hungry; Change MUST happen.
