Jameelah Lewis started this petition to UNLV's Anne Kingsley and

Attending UNLV and eating in the dining commons often leaves a bad taste in people's mouths. If the heavy carb loaded food diet that makes the myth of the freshman fifteen a reality on this campus is not enough to want out of a contract with Aramark, then the fact that the company does not align with UNLV's principles/morals of encompassing community, equity, diversity, and inclusiveness within our campus life should be good enough reason. Aramark's rap sheet dealing with many lawsuits surrounding their unethical practices, such as; a Black History Month scandal in where Aramark served culturally insensitive and racially stereotyped meals at NYU, as well as, serving food in prisons with rat droppings, food that is maggot infested, and under-portioned meal sizes causing malnourishment. We the community of UNLV should not pay into systems that are supporting industries that aims to incarcerate marginalized populations like the one's we strive to recognize within our mission and core themes. Aramark, being one of three major monopolizing food industries in prisons and at universities including Sodexho and Compass Group, is one of hundreds of companies fighting to be apart of the prison industrial complex. It is within our goals to alleviate ourselves from this company and future companies who's businesses strive from the incarceration of people of color. For these reasons and a plethora more we ask that you support us in our initiative to #StopAramark and get them off of UNLV's campus!
