The issue of mental health for secondary school students in Christchurch is very important and recently has become common due to the effects of recent earthquakes. It has caused many students to become stressed leading to depression, anxiety and show bipolar symptoms and moods. We as a Social Studies group want to not only support these students but help teachers observe and better understand what these students are going through. We want to implement a Professional Development course that teachers can choose to take that will teach them to identify students struggling with mental health issues, and work with to help them or refer them onto a professional. This course will be run by current mental health full-time workers in Canterbury.
