Due to the Covid-19 situation, the final semester examinations for 2016-2020 Anna University batch students were not conducted in April/May 2020. The examinations were conducted later in September 2020 in online mode. But, the exams were conducted only for the 8th-semester subjects and not the previous semester's arrear exams. Due to the Government Order issued about the cancellation of arrear exams for all university students, there was not enough clarity about the arrear examinations. After five months the university conducted the arrear examinations for students of the 2020 batch and the previous batch passed out students with arrears, in online mode on February 2021. The students of the 2016-2020 batch were not given a chance to write their arrear exams along with their 8th-semester subjects. For, these students the year of passing is mentioned as November 2020 instead of April/May 2020. Furthermore, in the arrear exam mark sheet it is mentioned as November 2020 exams were conducted in February 2021, which is not the case since for our batch it is the April/May 2020 exams which are conducted in February 2021. We bring to your attention that now, we are considered as students who did not complete their arrear examinations within the academic year and passed out of the university with arrears and later cleared it in November. This would hinder us in many ways while applying for universities and jobs in India and abroad. Since many companies and universities require students to complete their education within their academic year. This would also prevent students from writing several government exams and promotions and increment in the future. For the students of 2016-2020, the year of passing should be mentioned as April/May 2020 instead of November/December 2020. As the exams to be conducted on April/May 2020 were conducted on February 2021 for these batch students. Students of this batch are the worst affected as they waited for almost 9 months for their exams and now they are treated the same as the students who passed out with arrears before 2020. Hence, we together urge the university to give clarity on the year of passing and change it to April/May 2020 for the students of the 2016-2020 batch and consider our request on humanitarian grounds. We shall ask Anna University and Tamil Nadu government to look into the issues and ensure that no harm is done to our batch in Higher Studies Admission and Job Opportunities. This is a serious concern as it would affect the lives of many students of this batch (2016-2020).
