Require Commercial Grocers and Farms to Donate Unused Food

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

In America, 165 billion dollars in food is wasted every year, which amounts to 40% of all food in the United States. Grocers stores are responsible for 15 billion dollars alone, and 7% of all produce grown is left in field to rot. Despite all this "excess" food, 41 million Americans struggle with hunger. The food thrown away each year could feed every one of these people for over four years. If we require large Grocers and farms to sign donation contracts with food banks and other food charities to donate food that wouldn't otherwise be sold due to appearance or arbitrary expiration date, we can solve both the issue of food waste and hunger in America.
