No School on President’s Day 2020

No School on President’s Day 2020
Why this petition matters

President’s Day is considered a federal holiday, and many government institutions are closed on the holiday including public schools, banks, and even the USPS. Ann Arbor Public Schools was one of these institutions that were closed on the day until this year, for the district is still open, including all of its schools, on February 17th. AAPS is the only public school district in Washtenaw County that has school on President’s Day.
Many parents have the day off, and President’s Day is one often used to spend family time and take a break from the rigorous work and schooling that Ann Arbor students endure throughout their year. It’s also a day off for teachers, so they can spend time with their families as well and get any grading on their task list done. A Monday without school is something every student and teacher would greatly appreciate, and it is well deserved.
Please consider calling off school on President’s Day to give a chance for students and teachers to get some rest, finish any work they need, and relax on the holiday as we have all done before.
