Millions of Potbellied pigs are abandoned and unwanted now because of over- breeding.  The sale of these pigs to people who know little or nothing of how much care and attention a pet pig requires has profitted greedy pig breeders who sell the pigletts for hundereds or even thousands of dollars.  It is a heartless business that has led to thousands of potbellied pigs being neglected, mistreated, and abandoned.

Rescues for unwanted pigs are over capacity.   Some pigs are simply "turned out" by previous owners into rural areas and left to fend for themselves, often being attacked and killed by wild animals within days.

Breeders tell unknowing  buyers that these pigs are "mini pigs" and will stay small.  This is not true, and many breeders tell buyers to feed the pig a fraction of what the pig would require for healthy normal growth.  They also fail to have pigs neutered or spayed, creating even more unwanted pigs.  Pigs can live up to 15 or 20 years, having a pig is a long term commitment that few are able to take on.  As a result, after the pig is a year old and weighs more than anticipated, the pig is often  no longer welcome.  It happens over and over, thousands of times a year.   All for profit to a breeder.

Please sign in support of awareness that overbreeding has caused suffering and death to too many of these gentle domestic  animals.  Pigs are very social, extremly intelligent and do make great companions for those who can care for them long term.

If you own pigs, please don't breed them, there are thousands and thousands of pigs without homes now or in over crowded rescues being cared for by compassionate humans.  If you have informed yourself about potbellied pigs and still really want to have one as a companion pig, refuse to buy from a breeder, rescues have so many to chose from to adopt,  ranging in all ages.   Help spread the word to STOP Pig Breeding.  It is a real problem and too many pigs are suffering or have died because no one cared.
