Angus Council propose to close Stracathro Primary School. The school is the heart to the rural community of Stracathro and provides a hub for families who would otherwise be isolated.
To close the school would mean that children who cycle to the school less than a mile from their home would have to spend upwards of 60 minutes every day on school transport whilst it collects all the children from the existing catchment which is far and widespread.
The school building is in a good state of repair, the capacity sits at over 70% and performs well in HMI inspections.
Its an an invaluable resource for children in the area outwith the catchment who can’t cope in large classrooms.
The council have presented no valid educational reason to close the school, and have admitted it will cost them to close it.
The community is small, but vehemently opposed to the closure, the decision is permanent.
Please help us keep this vital resource open.
