Disbandment of graduation guest and gown fees and review international student provisions

Firstly, as a recent graduate looking forward to celebrating my ceremony with friends and family, I am appalled that ARU will be charging £25 per guest ticket and a further sub-contracted gown hire fee of £45. After already paying fees in excess of £25500, surely my graduation should have been included? Simple math calculates the ceremony to be a extortionate money making machine for the University and for those graduates who are intending to continue study, unemployed or or supporting a family, it makes the possibility of attending their own ceremony unjustifiable and impossible.
Secondly we believe that insufficient consideration is given to international students who's visa will have expired and have subsequently returned home. Consequently it is often financially and/or logistically impossible to attend. Costs of flights for a graduate and family on top of the cost of a simple graduation again cannot often be afforded or justified.
It is therefore proposed that firstly ARU remove the cost of guests to £0 or reduce the ticket allocation to 2 per graduate and charge for subsequent guest.
Secondly, review arrangements and reduce hire for graduation gowns.
Thirdly, provide a provision for international students who would otherwise not be able to attend the ceremony and offer an alternative smaller graduation earlier in the year.
