As a September 2020 finishing student, we were informed that our graduation would be in July 2021. However, on 3rd February 2021, students were sent an email mentioning how our graduation was now going to be a “virtual celebration to commemorate all your hard work and achievements during your time at ARU”. It then followed on to mention about “once safe to do so, we’re looking forwards to inviting you back for a reunion on our campus”.

Our 3yrs of training was hard, considering I and many others were a Nursing student, we helped the NHS in one of the hardest times – dealing with the COVID19 Pandemic. We had lots of our lectures moved online via Zoom. The teaching was not the same quality, and many struggled with this. To then get an email saying our graduation will now be virtual is a kick in the teeth.

We want ARU to listen to its student’s voice, engage us and allow us some say in the decisions in which are made. Sitting in front of a laptop watching a ceremony is not the same as being physically with one another; Dressed up in our gowns, laughing and smiling. Its not like you can screenshot your laptop and print that out and stick a copy on your wall!

Please look at U turning this decision and have a joint Graduation and Reunion for the Class of 2020 when it is safe for us to all get together again.
