Jessica Gushwa started this petition to Governor Andy Beshear and

Recess and lunch break should never be removed as a punishment in any of our great states schools.

Five states have already made this egregious offence illegal, and I would like you help me bring equality to our states education.

The removal of recess and time to move ones body affects all children and has infact been disavowed by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Unfortunately, the populations of neurodiverse children such as those with sensory processing differences, those on the spectrum, or with a neuro difference such as ADHD are disproportionately most likely to be punished for their "behavior" with removal of their right to move their body during the standard time others are given to do so.

It is counterintuitive to remove an appropriate time for movement from  any child. Especially those who are being penalized for not "holding still" in class. In fact, the answer is more movement, and not less.

The least we can do for our children is provide equality in access to recess no matter their neurotype, and join progressive states in outlawing this archaic punishment practice for all children of all neurotypes.
