People with disabilities are the most likely to be abused and mistreated. Unfortunately, many are nonverbal and are unable to express that they are being mistreated. Special needs children are even more vulnerable. They do not always understand what mistreatment is. Many children with special needs, even if they understand, cannot effectively express concerns.

Schools have cameras all over them. However, the most vulnerable children are not protected by these cameras. Special needs classrooms should have cameras. Despite the argument of HIPPA and FERPA, the protections given by cameras to the whole population is worth everyone being recorded. Camera footage can be requested. If your nonverbal child came home covered in bruises, wouldn't you want to know what happened?
