Mareem Akram started this petition to Governor Andrew M. Cuomo

Asian hate crime has increased socially in American. Many have been killed, attacked, or assaulted just because of their race. For example, in New York, in Manhattan Chinatown, a Chinese man has been stabbed behind his back by a stranger. The attacker was charged for attempted murder but not charged Hate Crime. He was just walking and not even bothering anyone, and suddenly someone stabbed him for no reason which clarifies Asian hate. Another example of Asian Hate is on April 4th when a 61-year old Asian man was assaulted in New York and now he is in the hospital fighting for his life. He was pushed to the ground and kicked in his head multiple times by a random person. After this incident, nobody has been arrested. This is Asian hate and needs to come to a end. According to the analysis New York City had the sharpest increase in hate crimes. Initially it started with 13 hate crimes to 42 hate crimes in a quarter of 2020. There is a big increase in the amount of Asian hate. If there is a change, this will impact my family and I because we are also Asians. My parents were born in Pakistan, So, if there is a end to Asian hate less innocent people will be attacked simply because they were born a certain race. Attacking people, specifically older people who cannot defend themselves makes me feel worried for my parents when they are traveling or doing simple things like grocery shopping.
