MY DAUGHTER’S ONLY CHANCE

TO SURVIVE COVID-19:

COVID19 AND SHERRITA CRUMPLER’S CROHN’S DISEASE

Help save the life of a domestic violence survivor who was wrongfully convicted and is suffering from Crohn’s, a Severe Autoimmune Disease by petitioning that her name is added to the NYS DOCCS Emergency Release Inmate List due to COVID19 Pandemic.

My daughter, Sherrita Crumpler, is incarcerated at Bedford hills Correctional Facility.  She suffers with Crohn's Disease. Crohn,s Disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that effects the lining of the digestive tract.  Crohn’s disease is known to cause life threatening complications.  Treatment, medication and surgery can help, but there is no cure.  This preexisting condition has caused Sherrita to suffer with a weakened immune system, low iron, taking Humira injections, severe diarrhea, fatigue, and weight loss.  Sherrita was diagnosed at the age of 12 with this debilitating disease.  This disease has caused her to suffer with the pain of pancreatitis, the inflammation of the pancreas,  causing her severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and hospitalization.  Sherrita has had numerous surgeries.  Sherrita has had her gall bladder and large intestines removed, a colostomy bag, due to the pain and suffering of this disease.  The facility gives her Humira injections. This injection has severe side effects, that includes avoiding being near people who are sick and have an infection.

My name is Lynn Crumpler, I have been a licensed Practical Nurse in the state of New York for over 15 years.  COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a virus, there is no vaccine and the death toll is rising daily.  An outbreak in prisons can kill hundreds to thousands of inmates.  If one inmate becomes ill there is no stopping the spread through the ventilation system, all cells are connected to the same system.  Inmates have no access to gloves or proper masks or even hand sanitizer.  Sherrita has no way to protect herself from this deadly virus.  COVID-19 spreads quickly in packed settings, there is no space for social distancing or similar recommendations experts make to combat the coronavirus.  Hand sanitizer is contraband, and face masks are not provided to inmates. The coronavirus is a death sentence in this pandemic environment.  Sherrita is sentenced to do time, not life. Leaving Sherrita in prison during this COVID-19 Pandemic, will be a death sentence.

COVID-19 haulted the existing motion CPL 440.47 for re-sentencing under the Domestic Violence Law; Penal Law Section 60.12, that would have greatly reduced her current sentence for early release Keeping her imprisoned not only reduces her minimal chances of survival, but also punishes her as a Domestic Violence Survivor.

The only chance Sherrita has to survive this COVID-19 Pandemic will be to release her on house arrest under my care, due to her chronic medical conditions.

Please give Sherrita Crumpler 15g0763 a chance by accepting and granting this signed Petition.
