We believe that the members of the NYPD should have to wear body cameras while in the field.  This will lower the risk of brutality because officers are less likely to act without thinking while they are being watched, and it will help gather evidence so guilty police can be brought to justice. Having cameras attached to police uniforms causes police to think more before acting irrationally, because they know that their every move is being recorded. In our society today, though we should be able to, we cannot trust our police officers to show integrity when in the field. Cameras attached to their uniforms will be a way to make up for this problem. Victims of police brutality regularly do not have enough evidence to support their claims, and the officers do not face the consequences.  Having body cameras will provide a source for evidence valuable for victims of brutality, and policemen and women will be fairly punished. Judging by the many benefits, we believe that police worn body cameras are the best solution to police brutality in our state.  Please sign our petition to help make a change.
