The families of New York State prison inmates ask you to release all non violent state inmates. Due to COVID 19 and the real threat of the disastrous effects it can and will have on the prison population not if but when it happens. Lowering the prison population and allowing the inmates to return home would lessen the spread of the disease and allow these inmates to be home helping to care for elderly, disabled or sick family members and their families in general. The risks are much higher if you leave them in prison. We understand they can be ordered to home confinement or a GPS monitoring device. There are many state inmates that are currently serving time for offenses where no one was injured. There are also non violent inmates that are now serving enhancement time only and have already completed their original sentence. These inmates are not a threat to the public and we ask that you please begin the process of releasing them. We know that there are men and women who have done very violent crimes but there are men and women who are serving time for crimes that they didn't commit also. We the people want them home so that their lives can be spared their lives matter also. Why should they be left to die in prison under inhumane conditions. What if it was your loved one sitting in prison not knowing if a CO is sick and bringing the virus to them and because they don't have the proper tools to clean and are stacked untop of each other they are at a higher risk of contracting COVID-19. Please hear our cry for our incarcerated loved ones and release them.
