Gyms, Fitness Centers and Health Clubs in NY State and Long Island need your help in getting their facilities back open for Phase 4.

According to the International Health Racquet and Sports Club Association (IHRSA), U.S. health clubs and studios are vital to the economy as they serve 74 million consumers, generate $32.3 billion in annual revenue, and employ over 800,000 people. Those jobs are at risk.

In addition, millions of New Yorkers rely on their daily fitness routines at health clubs, gyms and fitness studios to provide relief from daily stress, improve emotional and physical well being and to combat illness of varying degrees.  Exercise is in fact medicine.  Harvard University published an article in the Harvard Health letter stating the following:

"The human body was designed so that all physiological functions are optimal when we move," explains Dr. Lee, "and increasingly we are realizing it doesn't take much activity." Harvard scientists have discovered that when you exercise, your muscles release natural substances that help relax blood vessel walls, lower blood pressure, reduce "bad" LDL cholesterol, increase "good" HDL cholesterol, move glucose out of the bloodstream and into the cells where it is needed, lower insulin levels, and reduce inflammation. All of these functions together help protect us against heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers.

Health and Fitness professionals and owners from all over the world have been at the forefront of creating better precautionary measures than many other industries by adding new physical/social distancing policies, re-organizing the gym floors, reducing class sizes, adding even more disinfecting and cleaning protocols and safety measures and have been actively involved in creating additional health and safety precautions.

As other types of businesses are permitted to open with guidelines and contingencies, one of our primary lines of defense in fighting disease is being held at bay.  We need your help to change this direction and fast!

There is more physical distancing space available at your local gym or health club than at most other businesses that have remained open or are slated to open.For example, the NYS building code allows for "1 person per 50 square feet" for occupancy purposes for Health Clubs and Gyms as compared to many other serviced based businesses.  Under this code alone, health clubs and gyms already provide GREATER physical and social distancing parameters to other already open or soon to open businesses.  More than 3 to 7 times the requirements are already in place BEFORE these facilities have added extra precautions!
