Valerie McIntyre started this petition to Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and

As of September 9, 2020, Andrew Cuomo allowed New York State casinos to reopen. The restrictions placed on them are still denying over 3500 casino employees from working. The New York casinos are allowed to open with a 25% capacity, no beverages served on gaming floors and barriers between all seats at a gaming table. As of today, New York positivity rate has been under 1% for over 30 days thanks to the hard work and sacrifices of its citizens. Although we are grateful for the reopening and for the casino employees that are back to work, we will continue to implore you to allow us to work. The inability to work is devastating. We have given up socialization, employment, family, vacations, school and education, ability to pay bills and housing, and for many the sacrifices came at the expense of mental and emotional hardship. For some, they can fall back on prior careers, for others, this has been their only career, giving anywhere from 10 to 25 years of their hard work to the industry.

Governor Cuomo, the time has come for us to enter our tomorrows without the restraints placed on us today. We, as adults know proper hygiene procedures, and will have adequate training in safety procedures moving forward. After giving up so much for so long, we do not want to return to the lockdown we have had to endure. We are ready to move forward and we ask that you reconsider your decision on keeping the reins tighter than they need to be. It is time to get the casino families back to work.
