John Cerini started this petition to Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and

NYS is the last state in the United States that does not accept digital signatures to file our state income taxes.  Many NYS residents have yet to file their personal and business taxes. Some cannot leave their homes or get to their tax professionals office to sign the taxes.  These citizens should have the right to be able to file and sign their taxes digitally from the safety and comfort of their home.  We all understand our responsibility to file our taxes, whether personal or business.  With current COVID-19 restrictions set in place by NYS, we must be able to digitally sign our taxes.  Governor Cuomo had passed a temporary Tax Guidance N-20-3 on April 15th allowing New Yorkers to sign Digitally only until May 9th.  This is not good enough.  The IRS has extended tax season until July 15th, and Governor Cuomo has agreed to allow residents the same deadline for NYS returns.  We need to tell Governor Cuomo we want digital signatures extended if not indefinitely, then at least until July 15th.

Therefore, we the people ask Governor Cuomo to please extend this deadline for Tax Guidance N-20-3 so that your citizens can stay home during this on going Pandemic and safely sign their taxes.  We are truly in unprecedented times and we need to adapt with the situation.  Keep our state safe, allow us to sign our taxes digitally.  Thank You in advance for your consideration.
