Better Mental Health Education in all schools across Aotearoa
New Zealand is known to have the highest youth suicide rate in the world and almost one third of people in New Zealand have a personal experience of mental distress. This is an immense problem in New Zealand however there is a great lack of knowledge and prevention in our society about this issue. Knowing this, our main target audience is New zealand as a whole but specifically high school students.
Lucy Mcsweeney highlighted that education on health is compulsory up to year 10, just before students begin NCEA. This time period is significant to every student as they start to
There is a huge gap of knowledge about prevention in general New Zealand. We believe that by helping us support Lucy McSweeny and her campaign it will help future generations learn more about themselves as well as dealing with their mental health and knowing it’s not weak to speak.
This petition is in support of Lucy McSweeney’s campaign for New Zealand to have a better Mental Health Education in All NZ Schools, she believes that students need more exposure to how to cope with mental health issues at every year level not just year 9 and 10. She also believes we need better trained teachers to give us clear and consistent messages about mental health throughout our school life. All young kiwis should be able to have the knowledge of how to keep ourselves well and support one another and with your support of this campaign we can have a more comprehensive health curriculum in schools.
