Millions of Canadians rely on the convenience of plastic bags to carry their groceries. However, the convenience of these plastic bags comes at a very high cost. Each year, 2.86 billion plastic bags are used in Canada - that is 200 plastic bags  per person. On average, a plastic bag is used for 12 minutes. Plastic bags take hundreds of years to degrade, pollute the environment and harm many living organisms, including humans. Banning plastic bags may be a simple solution, but is one that will lead to a greener future.
