Start taking the thousands of hours that sports execs put in seriously.

Amongst the racism of intramural, the naked Varsity (ie no kit), the loss of varsity and the decline in engagement in sports, you'd think we'd still be able to throw a party right? With student numbers dropping sports clubs have worked hard over the past year, raising money for RAG, playing for Yorkshire and in some cases making the England trials.
Colours has always been a chance to get recognition for such things, yet many people who have dedicated their university career to Sports, received no recognition what so ever.
This is why I want to push for all colours tickets to be refunded. The evening was enjoyable, until you looked around at a rather broken AU, tables flipped and many in tears.
Does the AU Committee have any remorse for such a disastrous evening?
Some facts for ya:
- There were exactly 30 Colours/Special Colours handed out at an event with 295 people in attendance. (10.17% of people getting awards)
- Last year - there were 418 people in attendance and over 100 individual awards given out. (23.92% of people getting awards)
- At 'Activities Ball', there were 33 awards given out, out of 180 people. (18.33% of people getting awards)
- Out of the 9 student members of the AU Committee, 4 of them got either colours or specials (44.44%)
If we were, for example, to match the percentages from activities this year and colours, a further 24 awards would've been given out. Considering we only have around 36 clubs on campus (and falling), that's almost an extra award per sport.
Do the above figures suggest that the union value Sports execs less than others? It also means that societies with equal commitment and contribution to their clubs are going to have better CV's leaving the University than sports exec.
You didn't even have the common decency to let people know that they'd had their award rejected.
