Dear Governor Cuomo:
I am a resident of the Finger Lakes region.
This letter is to inform you that I am in complete disagreement with the Schuyler County Legislature’s June 9, 2014, narrowly approved resolution in support of a Texas-based corporation’s desire to expand liquid propane gas storage in salt caverns on the west shore of Seneca Lake.
The legislators’ vote in favor of the Crestwood proposal does not reflect the wishes of this community and actually goes against what I—and many other residents—feel about having lakeside LPG storage, the projected increases in truck and train traffic, and everything else this potentially disastrous project will bring to our small hometown and businesses.
We are outraged by the legislators’ June 9 vote.
The purpose of this letter is to remove any question in your mind that Crestwood is not welcomed by the majority of the residents in Schuyler County and surrounding towns and counties.
In fact, most communities, along with more than 200 businesses and 60 wineries, have already passed a resolution opposing it, firmly standing up to Crestwood and our legislature with a clear message: No LPG storage in the salt caverns. It’s a dangerous plan likely to end in disaster and certainly to result in water and air pollution and burdensome traffic, and it will act as a net detractor from the burgeoning Finger Lakes tourism industry, with which you are quite familiar and of which you have been so supportive.
Please do what you can as our Governor to stop the Department of Environmental Conservation from issuing any permits that Crestwood and its subsidiaries have applied for. We will not be a sacrifice zone for this out-of-state company.
And we will not let that company turn our beautiful area into a hazardous industrial site.
Please stand firm with us. We need your help.
