The community has the right to be part of any decision that impacts the quality of life in their community. Decisions that impact land use, infrastructure, water quality, and public utilities must be thoroughly vetted with the public. As it relates to our electric utility, Senator LaValle and Assemblyman Thiele introduced Bill S06861/A8609requiring the Long Island Power Authority to provide public notice for the construction of utility transmission facilities.

LIPA has previously and is currently proposing infrastructure and is excluding the public. The legislature proposed by Senator LaValle and Assemblyman Thiele would certify public engagement in these types of decision making processes, in particular as it relates to electricity infrastructure.

We the undersigned support the legislation and its commitment to public engagement and strongly encourage Governor Cuomo to sign the Bill and by signing it lend his support to the publics involvement in decisions affecting their community.
