Bridge Over Saw Mill/Roaring Brook Rd Crossing

There is a Metro North commuter railroad/Saw Mill parkway crossing in New Castle, close to the Horace Greeley High School, that is still governed by a traffic light. Building a bridge over the Saw Mill parkway is the best resolution here.
I am Junior at Horace Greeley, and next year I will be one of those senior students, who is crossing that intersection multiple times a day. Our high school is connected by this crossing and in the mornings there is heavy traffic that causes many kids to be late to school, and forces them to take risks such as stopping on the tracks. This occurs during rush hour when trains pass by every 10 minutes.
Many people in Westchester might remember a fatal accident that killed a car driver and five train passengers two years ago in Valhalla, NY a town two stops away on this train line. My father was on that train, and thankfully he wasn’t hurt. The crash was the deadliest in the history of Metro North and The National Transportation Safety Board recommended extensive study of such tracks at rail crossings nationwide to determine if they are safe. After the accident a few safety steps were added to this intersection, but that didn’t improve the condition.
Meanwhile, the Chappaqua Crossing Development which is to include housing units, Whole Foods and a Life time fitness center, will open soon and it will exacerbate traffic conditions.
Lastly, the state will benefit by a removal of the traffic light on Saw Mill parkway.
A bridge would eliminate the danger of a railroad crossing, school traffic, and provide easier access to a new shopping complex being built in the area.
