Allow New York First Responders to use HOV Lanes

Many villages, towns and cities in New York State are protected by the brave men and women of the volunteer fire and emergency medical service. These volunteers spend countless hours training and helping the community in ways well beyond emergency responses. Communities need these members around as much as possible especially when an emergency arises. I propose allowing active volunteer fire fighters and Emergency Medical Technicians with one or more years of service the ability to use HOV lanes in New York State. Having use of HOV lanes will allow first responders to get back to their respective districts sooner thus allowing them to respond to more emergencies. This can easily be policed using NYS Volunteer Fire Fighter or NYS EMT license plates already issued by DMV.
