Reinstatement of public railway services in southern NSW

CURRENT SITUATION

Currently, there are road deaths in southern NSW that are able to be reduced but the NSW Government prefers people to drive instead of using public transport train services.

At the moment there is only 1 train a week from Sydney to Griffith via Junee, Coolamon, Narrandera, Leeton etc. Nearby the other branch line from Cootamundra to Griffith via Cootamundra, Stockinbingal, Temora, Ariah Park, Beckom, Barellan, Yenda is not used anymore for passenger services despite a long term and growing need for a public train service for these towns.

The current service operates on a Saturday and Sunday only to Griffith via Junee, Narrandara. It stays overnight in Griffith and comes back via Junee to Sydney.

HOW TO MAKE CHANGE

What is needed is public pressure to obtain a commitment and promise follow through the NSW Government to increase the once a weekly train to Griffith to 2 a week as a minimum with both routes to Griffith used. The Government may need to even make new trains for extra services if they have to make it happen....

PROPOSALS

A potential plan could be introducing the new Temora route to Griffith on a Wednesday and Thursday pattern to provide an alternate route to Griifth via a later week service to the region.

Another option could be to ensure the current Griffith route is returned on a Sunday via Temora route, as a start.

By opening up the northern route via Temora to Griffith more businesses will likely gain sales, less road deaths will occur and passenger transport can be developed to grow to daily services in a longer term.

Ideally what would be great to see is a daily train to Griffith on each route or at least alternating days on a week.

WE NEED YOUR VOICE TO BE HEARD

Let us hear your support and views so we can alter the political agenda and get rail passenger services back on track to the southern NSW Riverina region.

We need to have people to tell us why they want the trains back and how this will help the towns in the region - ie economy, sales, safer traveling etc.
