Regarding the appointment of members of the Council of the Croatian Government for Croats outside the Republic of Croatia for Australia.
The process of nominating and appointing members of the Council was not known to Croatian associations in Australia because Mrs. Tonka Devčić Šarić was certainly not nominated because of her contribution to Croatian Culture and Identity in Australia since she migrated here in 1990.
Mrs. Tonka Devčić Šarić is a member of the Croatian House "Cardinal Alojzije Stepinac", and her husband is a longtime president of this club.
It is really disappointing that the Croatian government have not considered other more suitable candidates that we have in our community, that have made a significant contribution to Croatian identity and culture in Australia. There are many professionals of Croatian background and heritage, such as scientists, engineers, lawyers, doctors, teachers, second and third generation professors that were not even considered for this position, who have been ongoing ambassadors of the Croatian identity in all layers of Australian community life.
We are requesting that the Croatian Government withdraw Mrs. Tonka Devčić Šarić as the representative and renew fresh nominations for this position to ensure the person selected as the candidate is a suitable representative of the Croatian community in Australia.
