Change the ROHS Dress Code

I am a female student at Royal Oak High School in Royal Oak, Michigan. I am creating this petition because I feel that the current dress code at ROHS, specifically the rule regarding shorts, is unfair. I was told by our assistant principal that shorts cannot be shorter than a post-it note above the top of the knee (approximately 3 inches.) I feel that this is unfair because it is extremely difficult to find shorts this long for teenage girls. Many companies do not produce shorts this long. In the warmer months, classrooms are very hot at times, and girls who can't find shorts that fit this requirement are forced to wear pants, even though they're sweating and uncomfortable. When we are forced to go to class like this, it is often more difficult to concentrate on our classwork or studies. This feels unfair, because we deserve to be able to feel comfortable enough in school to be able to focus on academics. I would like to change this rule to a very common rule, that shorts must be at least fingertip length. Many schools use this as the requirement for their shorts and they don't have issues. It will be much easier to abide by this rule than the one currently in place. It will provide more opportunities for female students to find shorts that they can wear at school without fear of being forced to change, which is embarrassing.
