Carolyn Younger started this petition to Ancaster residents

The town of Ancaster has been growing rapidly, yet there is a big lack of pedestrian friendly sidewalks on Wilson St. W., Shaver Rd., and Garner Rd. (where our local Catholic High School is located) We can’t keep building homes and big box plazas in Ancaster that are only accessible by automobile. There isn’t even a bike lane to walk on.
Lloyd Ferguson, and the City of Hamilton, what is it going to take to make our growing town safe for pedestrians? Will someone being hit  in front of Wimpy’s make you take action? You can’t keep building up this area, but not make it safe to access by foot (and bike). Please fix the sidewalk issue in this town.

**update**- I have received  a reply from Mr. Ferguson (I did send it to the correct address):

“It has come to my attention your rant on Facebook. See below.

You are critical that I do not respond to your e-mails about the need for a sidewalk on Wilson Street between Shaver and Longo’s. We searched our e-mails and found only one from you which is also below where you had a concern regarding the Taylor Road path to the former C H Bray School and my reply.

I work very hard, generally on weekends ,when I am not buried in meetings to reply to my e-mails so  am concerned there may be a technical reason why I have not been receiving them from you on this sidewalk issue. Can you please make sure that you are using my correct e-mail address lloyd.ferguson@hamilton.ca. Sometimes the dot between the first and last name gets missed. On the issue of sidewalk on Wilson our development agreements requires developers to install sidewalk in front the their development. That is how the sidewalk was installed on Wilson between 403 and Shaver, The developer of Limestone Estates which is under construction build and paid for it so it is not taxed for as will the property between Shaver and McClure is developed. There are currently two applications into the city for that area including restaurants and a Hotel.
It has been my objective to get pedestrians and cyclist off Wilson and Garner as they are busy arterial roads . You may want to check out a new trail that has been constructed, mostly elevated in a beautiful natural area. As you live near the firehall to take Hamilton Drive south to a path between 39 and 472 Hamilton Drive just passed the second cure. Go down that path to Stowbridge Crescent to Tollgate Drive then right on Tollgate to another path between 103 and 107 Tollgate just before Gristmill. .Get on that path and it will take you to Shaver Park and then Shaver Road near Walmart. It sounds complicated but it is quite easy and a nice walk or ride on a bike.

My vision is to eventually connect this trail straight through to Braithwaite for a connection to Bishop Tonus High School.

I hope this answers your concerns.Councillor Lloyd Ferguson CET, CIM, GSC”.

This “vision” of Lloyds is not at all pedestrian friendly. Who wants to take a kilometre detour when running an errand and carrying groceries? Who wants their teenage daughters to be walking through overgrown paths in secluded areas alone? Why would we not want our main street of town to be fully pedestrian friendly and all stores have access for foot customers? How do wheelchairs and strollers get through the path? So many questions with logical answers. Make Wilson Street pedestrian friendly. If you live on  Morwick and Shaver for example, do you walk all the way back to Meadowbrook to access to Hamilton Drive?

Wilson Street needs to be made pedestrian friendly, as far as the businesses keep going up.
