Keiko McCracken started this petition to Anacortes School District 103

The Anacortes School District promises “a dynamic, well-rounded education that challenges, empowers, and builds character.” Yet our schools continue to fail the educational needs of our youth by using outdated, white-centered social studies curricula and textbooks nearly 20 years old.

We demand that the District immediately identify and implement a newly revised history curricula by Fall 2020, using a critical race lens with a focus on decolonization and fundamental reconsideration of empire and power.  Inclusion of Black, Brown, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian and other diverse voices and experiences is essential to telling the complete and living story of America.

Our country is experiencing the most significant discourse about racial justice since the Civil Rights Era. We must support our students and staff, as they move forward into a future where all are valued and uplifted, by providing the tools and resources they will need to meet this moment with fully engaged civic, intellectual and moral imaginations.
