Petition update

Still no update from UW President Ana Mari Cauce

Sep 8, 2016 — University of Washington President Ana Mari Cauce ended her petition response: "I will try to get back to you in the next few weeks." Over a month has gone by, and we have heard NOTHING from her. In fact, we went out of our way twice: as a group, and as individuals to reach out to her to no avail.

This lack of followthrough on the part of a university leader to work with concerned students, faculty, and staff, to prevent our campus from becoming a soap-box for white supremacists and bigots, is troubling. When even moderate conservatives public figures like Hillary Clinton are calling Breitbart and the alt-right a "racist" movement, and our university president - who rode into office as a champion for social justice, doesn't think this event is worth her time, it has only further exposed the extensive work our campus community needs to accomplish.

The admins inaction is a reminder that real action and change happens from the bottom up.

I'll keeping y'all in the loop about further developments on this matter and I look forward to your participation in keeping our university a safe space for workers to work and students to learn.
