The Issue

A petition for art spaces to do better.

We challenge museums and galleries to reassess the number of women and non-binary artists they exhibit, represent and collect.

We want to draw attention to women and non-binary artists and the fact that in 2023 they remain marginalised, undervalued and underrepresented. Together we hold museums and galleries accountable.

Women and non-binary artists are marginalised by the mainstream and opportunities are increasing at a painfully slow rate:

Did you know:

  • Women artists represent only 2% of the total art market
  • In the USA, 85% of museum collections consist of work by white men
  • 67% of artists represented by London’s major commercial galleries are men
  • Only 24% of 27,000 artists shown at art fairs were women
  • Only 13.7% of artists represented by commercial galleries in Europe and North America are women
  • Work by women artists make up only 3–5% of major permanent collections in the U.S. and Europe

SIGN THE PETITION To challenge museums & galleries to reassess the number of women and non-binary artists they exhibit, represent & collect.
