Hold Big Pharma Accountable for Shortages

Lately, there has been a major increase in the frequency and number of generic drug shortages in the United States. Patients are not receiving the potentially life-saving drugs that they desperately need, and hospitals are being forced to make difficult decisions concerning the lives of their patients. Procedures such as heart surgeries and chemotherapy are being delayed, and patients are dying, simply because of a "manufacturing delay". The FDA has no regulations on whether companies need to inform consumers, or even hospitals, of an upcoming shortage. A bill was introduced in 2011 by a State Senator of Minnesota, Amy Klobuchar, requiring companies to notify the FDA of possible upcoming shortages. The bill was introduced, read twice, and sent to a committee, but soon died and was never brought back to attention. It is a right of American consumers to bring our issues to Congress, and this issue has gone on far too long. Help me bring this important issue back to the attention of our government, so we can hold major pharmaceutical companies accountable for their actions, and protect the American citizen.
