Save the flipboard at 30th Street Station
Amtrak is planning to remove the Solari board, the big timetable in the center of the main concourse that clicks and clacks as its flip-boards spin around to update waiting passengers on train departures and arrivals, from 30th Street Station in Philadelphia, some time in the next two months. This board is the last of its kind in U.S. train stations, and it is an architectural landmark.
The digital solution Amtrak is planning to implement will be significantly more costly than rehabbing the existing board or even upgrading it to a digitally-controlled version. If you have fond memories of listening to and watching the board, please join me in asking Amtrak to reconsider their decision.
