Open a gaming lounge at Queen's University

The Queen's eSports Association (QEA) is a club that supports both casual and competitive PC gaming on campus. In the past few years, we have seen the Queen's gaming community expand tremendously allowing QEA to form partnerships with the likes of DXRacer and Bell to open a gaming lounge on campus. With new renovations to the JDUC, QEA believes this would be the optimal venue.
At the moment, QEA struggles with hosting events due to limited buildings capable of sustaining the electricity demands of the computers. Furthermore, having stationary gaming setups would eliminate the need for students to haul their own equipment. Also, the space would be used as a training ground for our competitive teams. In 2017, Queen's University competed against Universities across North America for a staggering $3 million in eSports related scholarships and prizing. The lounge would allow our competitive teams to practice face-to-face which would effectively boost team dynamic. Most importantly, the area would be a social area for students. An area where a neglected demographic of Queen's can gather to feel at ease and meet new people.
Implementation of a gaming lounge would help us expand our club membership, provide a social spot for students and a training area for our competitive teams.
We propose that the AMS allow us to use space in the renovated JDUC as a gaming lounge for one year to demonstrate the potential benefit to students.
