Amhurst is a wonderful community that is repeatedly plagued with dozens of incidents of vehicles crashing through fences along the main arterial road through our subdivision. The neighborhood is designed for homes to side face or back up to this road so when crashes do occur, cars are literally landing in back, side, and front yards. These accidents occur due to speeding, distracted driving, and driver error, but ultimately the pattern and frequency of these crashes displays a larger underlying problem with the design of the road that needs action towards solutions.

The Homeowners Association notifies Bexar County Public Works every time a crash occurs. Bexar county has implemented solutions in one area of American Lotus which has successfully slowed traffic and significantly reduced crashes happening at that site and have also put in bike lanes along the sides of American Lotus to assist, but it has not helped the crashes happening elsewhere along this 1.5 mile stretch of road.

To compound this issue, construction of 2 additional subdivisions attaching Amhurst will be adding traffic from an additional 600 homes combined to American Lotus - all driving through Amhurst to reach main surrounding roadways.

We ask for residents in Amhurst or Canyons at Amhurst ONLY to please sign this petition and include your Street name for proof of residency. If you have had a crash through your fence along American Lotus, please include this in your comment as we are attempting to get a real factual count of all incidents.
