The Floral Heart Project: A COVID-19 Memorial

Disenfranchised grief is a term that psychologists use to describe moments where we delay our grief in order to respond to the more immediate trauma. Americans are doing this now by failing to acknowledge the enormity of deaths that have resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic. The result, according to experts, can be compounded trauma (PTSD) at a nationwide level.

In order to help heal our community, we will need to visualize and respond to the loss of life in this moment-- more lives lost than many of our largest military wars. We will need a memorial.

Sign this petition if you'd like to see the creation of a COVID-19 memorial that helps to honor those who have died and helps to ensure that this moment will never happen again. Your signatures will be used as support to petition decision makers to raise funds for and open a design challenge to create this memorial.
