Violence against children exists across the globe. Its prevalence in the United States is often neglected and overlooked with state agencies estimating in 2014 that 702,000 children were victims of maltreatment, with an average of four to seven child death per day in consequence of abuse (“Child Abuse Statistics” 2017). Children are one of the most vulnerable groups in society. Children rely on their parents, adults and society as a whole to preserve their innocence and protect them from all forms of abuse and maltreatment. Our goal is therefore to unmask one of the most dangerous crimes against children, often neglected in literature; child trafficking. The issue of human trafficking affects not only children, but women and men across the globe. This course should already exist in AU's curriculum as a self-proclaimed school of activists, human trafficking is an interdisciplinary subject with prevalence across the globe.
