Marc Szechter started this petition to American Theatre Wing

Problem
For the second time in four years, the Tony Awards are scheduled to fall on the Second Night of the Jewish Holiday of Shavuot. This means that observant Jewish theatre fans will not be able to watch the awards.  Such a scheduling conflict is an affront to the American Jewish community, a community which has had a long and successful history on Broadway.

Solution
The American Theatre Wing must acknowledge the conflict, change the date, and promise to ensure that this conflict will not happen again.

Personal Story

I am an observant Jew and an aspiring composer and music director.  I find it insulting that the American Theatre Wing has once again neglected Jewish theatre fans by making them choose between the awards and observing one of the most important holidays of the year.
