ASLTA Special Election

The ASLTA Board of Director announced the resignation of Keri Brooks as President on October 15, 2017. In the same announcement they stated they were appointing Arlene Garcia as interim President. This is a direct violation of the ASLTA Bylaws.(7.06 Resignations, Vacancies and Removal from Office: A Board member may resign by notifying the President of the Association in writing 30 days prior to the effective date. The Board of Directors shall have the authority to fill any vacancy on the Board that may occur between biennial general business meetings of the Association with the exception of the President that shall be filled by the Vice President.)

In addition, it has been discovered that many of the members of the Board of Directors do not hold ASLTA Certification, which is a requirement to be a Board member under the bylaws. (7.01 Board Members to be Elected and/or Appointed: President, Vice-President, Professional Development Chair and Evaluation Chair shall have Professional- level certification; all other Board members shall have ASLTA certification.)

Therefore, the election held at the biannual meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, in June 2017, is void. (RONR 66. B. CONDUCTING ELECTIONS Additional Points Concerning Elections: If it is discovered after an election that the person elected does not meet eligibility requirements, and even if the person has begun to serve, the election is void. The organization must have another election)

The members of ASLTA want to hold a special election to resolve the issue of the void election. We demand that the Board of Directors recognize our rights as members and respectfully submit to a special election. We ask that Joshua Beckman, Vice President of NAD, be brought in as Parliamentarian to help resolve all the above issues and to move the Board of Directors back into compliance.
