As a Puerto Rican teenager living in America, I feel the need to speak up about this. People in Puerto Rico are losing their homes to American investors like Brock Pierce. This is not fair to them and it needs to be stopped. These investors are buying people’s houses and essentially kicking them out. There are families who don’t have a place to live or raise their children anymore. Many Puerto Ricans don’t feel like it’s Puerto Rico. With this, the investors are making AirBnB’s and renting out houses for greater prices, and this benefits no one but them. So they are the only ones profiting off of this, meanwhile there are children without a cozy bed to sleep in. And it is clear that the Puerto Rican citizens and protesters don’t like this judging by the “Go home, Gringo” signs. There are now posters being hung around buildings that were sold saying “This is what our colonizers look like”. And with Hurricane Maria just passing through, many people lost their valuables too. So they can’t sell those either. This is not a matter of “win-win”, this is an issue. I can’t sit by and watch this happen, and I hope you can’t either. We can help these people, and raising awareness is a good start. Please help the Citizens of Puerto Rico.
