Why this petition matters

Started by Kat Torno

Over 600,000 people in the U.S. alone are deaf, and over 260,000 are mute. With this said, it's more than likely that children will encounter someone who is deaf or mute throughout their lives. However, most of the population doesn't know sign language, which makes it incredibly difficult to communicate - especially if one of the parties doesn't have a way to write what the are trying to convey. That's why we're starting a petition to make ASL a class in schools across America. If this is implemented, not only will people be able to communicate easier, they'll also have more job prospects and are more likely to get into colleges. With that being said, we understand there aren't a lot of teachers with the right experience; however, there are easy classes available for teachers to learn with their students. So, not only does it help the children, it helps their teachers, parents, and families too! Please, help all of us across the U.S. who are deaf and mute. Help impliment ASL classes in school districts across the U.S.!
