American Girl: Consider making a black girl of the year (Revised title)

I am Jewish and I remember the day I opened my Rebecca doll and I felt an immediate connection to her. I got to celebrate familiar holidays with her and I loved doing it. Unfortunatly, many black kids cannot have this expireience because black AG dolls are either portrayed as poor slaves or very rich, spoiled kids. Why can't they have a black doll who goes to school, has a non spoiled family and does an interesting hobby? AG feeds into the stereotype that black people are generally poorer or richer than the rest of this population. For instance, an AG doll might be on a black kid's Christmas list, and they feel sad when they open the gifts with their whole family on Christmas day to find a doll that is black, but when they read the story, they may not feel that immediate connection I felt when I made my doll her spiritual dress. Sign this petition to show that black kids are part of the population and that they should be portrayed the right way.
