Change the Patent Laws for Pharmaceutical Companies.
Patents let an inventor be able to work on a product for 20 years without anyone else “stealing” their idea(s). Big Pharma companies are taking advance of the Patent Laws and that is resulting in the cost of insulin being very high. Currently 3 big companies make up 96% of the production and manufacturer insulin, and therefore can make their prices for insulin as much as they want. Insulin is a drug 436 million people need to survive and it has been patented since the 1920s. These big 3 companies have been stacking patents on top of patent so no other competitors can enter the market. They are using a tactic called evergreening. These 3 companies aren’t even changing their insulin they are making tweaks if that to extend the patents life to make more money. If we change the patent laws to limit the amount of patents a company can apply for, then other companies can also start making and producing insulin, therefore reducing the cost, creating new companies, more jobs, and helping the market.
