American Cancer Society: Keep a Hope Lodge open for cancer patients and their caregivers

My husband was recently diagnosed with a rare cancer and referred to Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York. An invasive surgery was part of his treatment and it would require a 10 to 14 day hospital stay. We live roughly 3 hours away from his needed cancer treatment and wondered where I would stay during this part of his care.
The medical staff told us about The Hope Lodge -- a facility sponsored by the American Cancer Society offering free temporary lodging for cancer patients and their immediate caregiver. We’re so grateful they did. This place has been a blessing for so many reasons other than financial. The Lodge is more than a place to stay -- it’s a refuge, and the residents become a second family. The Hope Lodge family has been a source of support and comfort for so many at the end of long treatment days.
During our stay, we learned from Lodge staff that the aging Victorian house would soon be closed for occupancy and maintenance reasons. The ACS declared their intention to close the facility, regardless of any financial support they may receive from the surrounding community. This facility has meant so much to so many families -- we must preserve the therapeutic fellowship the house is known for.
The Hope Lodge has been our home away from home during this trying time. Please help us encourage the American Cancer Society to open another Hope Lodge nearby, by signing this petition today.
