North Carolina Whistle Blowers Law is not broad enough. It needs a broader scope to protect Law Enforcement and Civilians from retaliation from their employers. All employees should have the protection to speak up against illegal and unethical behavior by their employers.

I worked for the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office for over twenty years and was BULLIED AND FIRED for refusing to make an illegal arrest. I was directed by the Sheriff's Office Legal Adviser (Attorney) and ordered by my Ssgt. (Senior Sergeant) to arrest a lady who has two small kids that was renting a residence from whom at the time was our Chief Deputies cousin, and wanted her out over an argument with his cousins wife. They also wanted to know how many kids she had, so if I did arrest her, DSS would have been called. She was scared to death of her kids being taken.  After it happened, I approached the Office Of Professional Stands and was advised by a Sgt. at the time, now a Captain, that I was not the only person this has been done to. I had no protection from the LAW for refusing that order. The Chief Deputy is NOW THE SHERIFF OF CUMBERLAND COUNTY. He was placed in office by the then Sheriff and County Commissioners. He has since won the Sheriff's race of 2018 to become the newly elected Sheriff.

By amending the Whistle Blowers Law (code section: 95-240,et seq.) we can protect everyone, not just employees or representative who files claim, initiates an action or testifies on worker's compensation, OHSA, and wages or hours. Basically it is protection for people who believe their company has defrauded the government leaving the rest of the public at the mercy of their employers.
