Dear Lieutenant Governor,
My name is Cali OKeefe. I'm am writing to you regarding the "Raise The Age" law put into effect with Governor Cuomo. I would like to share with you an incident that happened to me recently. I live in The Village of Babylon on Long Island. The past couple of years, we have been having issues with minors that label themselves "The 631 Bike Gang". This past year they have taken over our village in droves of 30-60 minors driving on thier bicycles. They are spitting, cursing, and physically assaulting the citizens of our once beautiful village without any legal ramifications, due to this law that was co written by yourself along with Governor Cuomo. They are also blocking First Responders while en route to hospitals and fires. They are blocking full lanes of the road than crashing into the cars. Then,the parents are suing the drivers. It is making communities extremely unsafe and these minors are all too aware that they are "Untouchable". Recently, I was walking my dog along with my daughter. A group of minors 30 plus kids starting driving their bikes towards us and were throwing LIT fireworks at us. I told my daughter, to pick up our dog and run back to our house. They all stopped around me and one of the kids was up in my face. I told him, you will stay here and wait for the cops. He did not move and said "You can't touch me I'm a minor". I had my hand placed on the back of his tire with all of the kids surrounding me. He than proceeded to get me onto the ground and dragged me across the street. The other minors stood there and laughed and recorded it on social media. As a result, I spent a night in the hospital and had abrasions on my knees, back, and entire left side of my body. I also suffered trauma to my lower back and hips. Due to this law, there were no legal actions that could be taken as per the police department. I am hosting a community meeting in Babylon Village on September 22nd at 7pm at The American Legion Hall in Babylon, NY. I have spoken to several politicians that will be in attendance, along with the media. I was hoping that possibly a representative from your office would be able to attend this meeting to hear what your stance is on this issue and what you plan on doing moving forward with this law.
