In Australia, it is illegal for people under the age of 18 to gamble, however, online game companies are exploiting a loophole allowing many people, young and old, to be targeted by big companies.

As it stands, the Australian Communications and Media Authority does not classify loot boxes in online games as a form of gambling. They argue that, because the in-game rewards have no monetary or quantitative value, it does not count as gambling, though there are many cases where players use the trading features of game platforms for Real Money Trading (RMT), where virtual items are exchanged for real currency.

Though the Australian government cannot persecute overseas companies, they have the power to disallow certain practices from being marketed in Australia. This petition will show our MPs that we will not stand for the blatant exploitation that video game companies have gotten away with for so long.
