On April 29th, 2020, AMC CEO Adam Aron announced to Universal chairman Donna Langley that AMC would no longer screen Universal movies in their theaters.

AMC's letter was triggered when NBCUniversal's CEO Jeff Shell commented on the success of the 'Trolls World Tour.' In which Jeff Shell said, As soon as theaters reopen, we expect to release movies on both formats."

With streaming becoming more popular, our theaters are at risk of becoming obsolete. As an avid moviegoer and AMC loyalist, I found this news disparaging.

I don't want to see studios banned from theaters because they choose to bypass the 'theatrical window.'

I believe this move by AMC's CEO will force studios to pick a side. With many major studio companies investing heavily into streaming platforms, I can only assume studios will want to protect their investment into streaming and choose the side of convenience and control of distribution.

Our movie theaters are at risk of being on the losing side of this equation. The current pandemic has made me realize now more than ever that I do not want to live in a world without movie theaters.

I hope that AMC will realize the narrow-mindedness of their decision and chose to lift the ban on Universal before the decision to stream or honor the theatrical window has to be made by other movie studios.
